High School Grads Ready for Green Jobs

BEE Project’s Green Jobs Program prepares high school students for green jobs through education, resume building, introductions to industry professionals, and internships creating lifelong connections.

(San Antonio, TX), April, 2021: - 51 seniors from the Centers for Applied Science and Technology (CAST Schools) have completed the eight week BEE Project’s Green Jobs Program. Participating students are walking away with a resume, LinkedIn profile, connections with green industry professionals and first access to our summer internship program.

During the eight week program, students explored energy generation and storage, electricity grid operations and management, and ways to manage energy resources through efficiency and conservation. With that foundational knowledge, students teamed up to research and present how cutting edge technologies could be applied to the energy industry.

“I learned that there are so many opportunities in green jobs. In fact, this program taught me that any job can be a green job as long as we are working towards using earth’s resources responsibly” ~ Jonathan Rodriguez, CAST Tech 2021 Graduate

Students completing this program will have access to five paid summer internships, sponsored by CPS Energy in collaboration with San Antonio ISD’s Sustainability Department. These internships will allow students to begin applying the knowledge they’ve gained to real world challenges.

“This program was a great addition to my environmental science curriculum. It applied foundational knowledge to real world applications. Giving students the opportunity to walk away with resumes, LinkedIn profiles, and access to industry professional connections they might not otherwise have is a game changer.” ~ Kendra Garza, CAST Tech Environmental Science Master Teacher

This Green Jobs Program is generously sponsored by CPS Energy and Itron and incorporates components from Smart Energy Education.
